European Grassroots Antiracist Movement delegation on Tutsi genocide commemorations in Rwanda

EGAM’s French-European delegation is in Kigali, capital of Rwanda participating in Tutsi genocide commemorations and researching facts about the genocide.

Delegation is made of members and directors of civil society organisations from France and Europe who are participating in the Tutsi genocide commemorations in Ruanda taking place from April 4th to 12th which include meeting youth and genocide survivors and visiting universities in cooperation with Hutu Power organisation. Following the engagement started in June 2014 and together with the members of the Initiative “Tutsi genocide: Truth Now!” EGAM’s goal is to raise awareness about the genocide among the French people and to encourage longterm efforts on discovering facts and ensuring justice for this period of past which also belongs to France.

On April 9th the delegation met and discussed with Rwanda president, Paul Kagame and visited genocide memorials: Ntarama where 5000 people were killed and Nyamata where 50000 people lost their lives.

Alongside directors of EGAM, SOS Racisme, young socialists, young greens, teacher and student unions from France and Amadeo Antonio Stiftung,Youth Initiative for Human Rights Croatia and Youth Initiative for Human Rights Serbia are also represented.
