On the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Antiwar Campaign Croatia, the Youth Initiative for Human Rights – Croatia and DKolektiv – Association for Social Development opened the exhibition “Peace Activism during the 1990s and Today” in the Cultural Center Osijek on Friday, October 22nd.

The exhibition, whose authors are Nikica Torbica (DKolektiv) and Branka Vierda (YIHR), explores the meaning of peace and peace activism during the 1990s, but also 30 years after. Through photographs and statements of the members of the Antiwar Campaign Croatia, as well as activists born after the period of the 1990s, the exhibition offers an exchange of experiences among two generations of peace activists.

Within the exhibition, much like in everyday life, these two groups lead a dialogue about the legacy of peace and antiwar activism during the 1990s, the possibilities of non-formal education, peace methods and skills, peace work in the political arena, the potential of dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution, as well as the motivation for peacebuilding contribution.

Through “the exhibition within an exhibition”, the visitors had an opportunity to share their thoughts regarding peace, emphasize peace activists who inspire them, and point out contemporary problems that need to be dealt with today in order to contribute to sustainable peace.

The goal of “Peace activism during the 1990s and today” is to preserve the memory of those among us who actively and devotedly strove to preserve and maintain peace even in the most difficult times; to point out the continuity of peacebuilding work from the 1990s to today; to recognize the similarities and differences among generations in terms of understanding peacebuilding impact during and after the wars; and to inspire an active contribution of society and individuals in keeping and creating peace.
