Senna Šimek Izvršna direktorica // Executive Director
Senna Šimek diplomirala je politologiju na Fakultetu političkih znanosti i povijest na Filozofskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. Trenutno pohađa doktorski studij moderne i suvremene hrvatske povijesti u europskom i svjetskom kontekstu na FFZG-u na kojem je angažirana i kao vanjska predavačica. Tijekom studija je u sklopu Erasmus programa imala priliku jedan semestar boraviti na Sveučilištu u Beču. Uz fakultet, polazila je različite neformalne obrazovne programe poput Mirovnih studija Centra za mirovne studije, Škole društvene pravednosti Zaklade Friedrich Ebert, Studentskog programa Akademije za politički razvoj te kraće edukacije i ljetne škole na temu nacionalizma, izgradnje postkonfliktnih društava i tranzicijske pravde, kulturalne traume i sl. U Inicijativi mladih za ljudska prava počela je volontirati u siječnju 2022., a zaposlena je od svibnja 2023. ___________________________________//_________________________________ Senna Šimek earned a master’s degree in Political Science at the Faculty of Political Science and a master's degree in Modern and Contemporary History at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences, both at the University of Zagreb. She is a PhD candidate in Modern and Contemporary Croatian history in the European and World context at FFZG where she also works as guest lecturer. During her studies, she spent one semester at the University of Vienna as part of the Erasmus+ exchange program. Apart from her studies, she attended various informal educations, such as the Peace Studies at the Center for Peace Studies, the Student Program of the Academy for Political Development, the School of Social Justice organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, and shorter (summer) schools on nationalism, cultural trauma, post-conflict societies, transitional justice and other. She had been volunteering at the Youth Initiative for Human Rights since January 2022 and started working in May 2023.
Margareta Blažević Provoditeljica programa // Program Officer
Margareta Blažević je programska provoditeljica u Inicijativi mladih za ljudska prava Hrvatska kojoj se pridružila 2024. godine. Magistrirala je međunarodne zločine, konflikte i kriminologiju na Free University u Amsterdamu nakon što je završila interdisciplinarni Bachelor program politike, psihologije, prava i ekonomije na University of Amsterdam u Nizozemskoj. Tijekom studija i prethodnog rada, Margareta se fokusirala na istraživanje postkonfliktne tranzicijske pravde, politike sjećanja, pomirenja i ratnih narativa, s posebnim fokusom na Hrvatsku i Bosnu i Hercegovinu. Prije nego što se pridružila YIHRu Hrvatska, radila je na Netherlands Insititute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement gdje je provodila istraživanje o međugeneracijskom prijenosu ratnih narativa u Bosni i Hercegovini. I dalje je dio istraživačkog tima Center for International Criminal Justice (Free University Amsterdam) koji se bavi istraživanjem jugonostalgije u Srbiji, Bosni i Hrvatskoj. Također, Margareta je prethodno radila kao vanjski istraživač Muzeja ratnog djetinjstva u Sarajevu i Atlanske Inicijative (BiH). Također je volontirala u Memorijalnom centru Srebrenica te sudjelovala u raznim profesionalnim treninzima vezanima uz mir i sigurnosni sektor. Od 2015. do 2018. Margareta je bila voditeljica projekta, a zatim i predsjednica Europskog parlamenta mladih Hrvatske. Tada je sudjelovala u koordinaciji projekata i organizirala konferencije koji su za cilj imali poticanje građanskog aktivizma i angažiranosti u društveno-političkim pitanjima, te edukaciju mladih o europskoj politici i sociopolitičkim izazovima na Zapadnom Balkanu i u EU. _______________________________________//_________________________________ Margareta Blažević is the Program Officer at the Youth Initiative for Human Rights Croatia which she joined in 2024. She holds a Master’s degree in International Crimes, Conflict, and Criminology from the Free University in Amsterdam which she pursued after obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Politics, Psychology, Law, and Economics from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. During her studies and previous work, Margareta focused on researching the dynamics of post-conflict transitional justice, memory politics, reconciliation, and war narratives, with a specific focus on Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Before joining YIHR Croatia, she worked at the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement where she conducted research on intergenerational transmission of war narratives in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is still affiliated with the Center for International Criminal Justice (Free University Amsterdam) where she is a part of a research team looking into Yugonostalgia in Serbia, Bosnia, and Croatia. Margareta also worked as an external researcher for the War Childhood Museum in Sarajevo and the Atlantic Initiative (BiH). She also volunteered at the Srebrenica Memorial Center and participated in various training programs related to peace and security. From 2015 to 2018, Margareta was a Project Manager and then the President of the European Youth Parliament Croatia. In these capacities, she coordinated and organized projects aimed at fostering civic engagement and educating the youth on European politics and sociopolitical challenges in the Western Balkans and the EU.
Dora Tomljanović Programska asistentica // Program Assistant
Dora Tomljanović je stekla diplomu iz povijesti na Filozofskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. Tijekom studija sudjelovala je u raznim neformalnim obrazovnim programima, uključujući Edukativno aktivističku školu tranzicijske pravde "Gdje si bio/bila 2022.?" Inicijative mladih za ljudska prava Hrvatske, kao i Osnovni trening izgradnje mira Centra za nenasilnu akciju Sarajevo-Beograd. Prije nego što je počela raditi u Inicijativi mladih, Dora je bila aktivna članica Aktivističke mreže od siječnja 2023., a zaposlena je od siječnja 2024. godine. _______________________________________//_________________________________ Dora Tomljanović graduated from the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with a history degree. During her studies, she took part in several informal educational programs, including the Croatian Youth Initiative for Human Rights Educational Activist School for Transitional Justice "Where Were You in 2022?" as well as Center for Nonviolent Action Sarajevo-Belgrade's Basic Peacebuilding Training. Dora was an active member of YIHR HR's Activist Network from January 2023 and has been employed since January 2024.
Mario Mažić Osnivač i predsjednik Upravnog odbora // Founder and Chairman of the Governing Board
Mario Mažić rođen je u Sisku, a odrastao između Siska i Petrinje zbog ratnih događanja u 1990-ima. Završio je opću gimnaziju i upisao Fakultet političkih znanosti 2006. godine. Završio je ljetni akademski program iz međunarodnih odnosa i politologije na Sveučilištu u Oslu, Norveška (2008) i ljetni program iz povijesti i književnosti Sveučilišta Northwestern (2010). Godine 2012. sudjelovao je u fellowship programu Dijalog o prošlosti i odgovornost na Institutu za izučavanje ljudskih prava Sveučilišta Columbia u New Yorku, SAD. Tijekom srednjoškolskog obrazovanja vodio je i uređivao emisiju na teme relevantne za mlade na lokalnom radiju. Kasnije se pridružio Omladinskoj grupi Hrvatskog helsinškog odbora za ljudska prava koju je nekoliko godina koordinirao dok nije postao suradnikom u Programu obrazovanja za ljudska prava. Član je upravnog odbora Fonda za humanitarno pravo Kosovo. Osnovao je YIHR u Hrvatskoj 2008. godine u koordinaciji s regionalnom mrežom YIHR. ___________________________________//_________________________________ Mario Mažić was born in Sisak and grew up between Sisak and Petrinja due to the war events in the 1990s. He graduated from general high school and entered the Faculty of Political Sciences in 2006. He completed the summer academic program in international relations and political science at the University of Oslo, Norway (2008) and the summer program in history and literature at Northwestern University (2010). In 2012, he participated in the fellowship program Dialogue on the Past and Responsibility at the Institute for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University in New York, USA. During his high school education, he hosted and edited a program on topics relevant to young people on local radio. Later, he joined the Youth Group of the Croatian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, which he coordinated for several years until he became an associate in the Human Rights Education Program. He is a member of the board of directors of the Fund for Humanitarian Law Kosovo. He founded YIHR in Croatia in 2008 in coordination with the YIHR regional network.
